The Cretan vineyard at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion
A particularly important and honorable collaboration begins for Wines of Crete. The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion in collaboration with the Cretan Winemakers Association and the support of the Region of Crete, are organizing an event on Cretan wine that will take place on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th of September 2023, as part of the European Cultural Heritage Days 2023.
At the event entitled Abelourgos – in Greek: Αμπελουργός“ 5000 years of Cretan wine, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the production of wine from ancient times to the present day. At the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the archaeologists present the thematic route “Wine Roads in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion”, with 23 stops at exhibits related to the cultivation of the vine on the island, winemaking, storage and distribution of wine, as well as the vine and wine symbolism from prehistoric times to Roman times. At the same time, there will be the presence of the modern Cretan vineyard, the modern Vinegrower, giving visitors the opportunity to taste wines from wineries that are members of Wines of Crete, thus connecting the past with the present, the history of the viticulture sector with contemporary wine-growing Crete.
The event will take place at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion on September 15 & 16, 2023.
